The Last Hearth
This
is intended to be a soundscape in which a series of events happen. A person
rummages around with something like a bag, then stands up and walks as the
microphone follows them. There is a pause, as the harmonious droning increases
in intensity, and then the sound of a door opening. With the door opening, the
sounds of the outside world slowly fade in, with birds and wind. Then, the
person steps outside the door, and finally the sounds of air sirens fade into
existence, as if heard far away in the distance. This is meant to be a
post-apocalyptic inspired soundscape; a person leaving a safe sanctuary into
the unknown, to unknown results. I’ve always loved dystopian settings and it’s
fun to explore how to best capture that essence in sound form. I made this entirely
using clips from Freesound.org and from sounds recorded from my own phone.
